Xtndit is a simple tool to predict the effect of a process on the battery power of the laptop.
Read the PDF document: Xtndit.pdf for details on the working of the tool
Download power gadget from: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-power-gadget-20
Included is the version of power gadget with which this tool was built. Also the target platform was System 76 laptop which has an Intel(R) Core(TM)
i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz with 4 cores.
Prior to running the tool, build power gadget
$ cd power_gadget
$ make
Now insert the modules cpuid and msr into kernel
$ sudo modprobe cpuid
$ sudo modprobe msr
Now run the script
$ cd ..
$ sudo ./xtndit.py -e 10 -s 5 -w 10 -p 12345
sample run:
$ sudo ./xtndit.py -e 10 -s 5 -w 10 -p 23925
Predicted Battery time (minutes):
153.833333333
Time increases in minutes if the application is closed
