World Cup Discord Bot

A discord bot for displaying information about the FIFA World Cup 2018. This uses the Soccer for good API to retrieve the data.

How to use

Visit https://discordapp.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=457630413687619595&scope=bot&permissions=0 to add the bot to your server.

Available commands

Prefix each command with "!world-cup"

  1. today
  2. tomorrow
  3. current
  4. groups

today

This displays today's schedule of matches with optionally showing the current/finished score.

Matches today:
12:00: Sweden vs Korea Republic @ Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, Nizhny Novgorod, currently playing: HT 0 - 0
15:00: Belgium vs Panama @ Fisht Stadium, Sochi
18:00: Tunisia vs England @ Volgograd Arena, Volgogra

tomorrow

This displays tomorrow's schedule of matches.

Matches tomorrow:
12:00: Colombia vs Japan @ Mordovia Arena, Saransk
15:00: Poland vs Senegal @ Spartak Stadium, Moscow
18:00: Russia vs Egypt @ Saint Petersburg Stadium, St. Petersburg

current

This displays the status of the current matches with the current time and score.

Run your own bot

Before you can run your own bot you will need to create an app in discord:

  1. Head to Discord Developers and login when prompted.
  2. Click "New App" and fill in the form to create your bot application.
  3. Click "Create a Bot User" when the application has been created.
  4. Scroll down to the "Bot" section of that page, click the "click to reveal" link next to "Token" in order to view your token.

You will need this token to be passed into the application, which can be done by setting the DISCORD_TOKEN environment variable.

Locally

  1. Clone the repo
  2. npm install
  3. DISCORD_TOKEN=YOUR-TOKEN-HERE npm start

Now

You can deploy using Now. You will need to create an account using an email which you should get prompted to do so when first deploying.

Make sure to setup the discord_token secret by using now secret add discord_token YOUR-TOKEN-HERE.

Then run now to deploy. Or if you wish to manually set everything run now --public -e DISCORD_TOKEN=@discord_token --npm --name world-cup-discord-bot

Docker

  1. Clone the repo
  2. Build a docker images docker build -t world-cup-discord-bot .
  3. Run using docker run or docker-compose: docker run --name world-cup-discord-bot -e DISCORD_TOKEN=YOUR-TOKEN-HERE -d world-cup-discord-bot
