As this is one of the most popular articles on your website (and extremely helpful) you should seriously consider updating the code base for the passport-local strategy.

It looks like this was done, though there is a branch still using express 3.x. Also, this is outdated, in order to make it work, you will basically need to convert 4.x to 3.x by installing all the depreciated modules. If you want security, write your own middleware. If you want something fast, this could still be good but it's not so straightforward.
