The code currently assumes that all phone numbers follow the US 10-digit format with only deviations being the optional +1 prefix and optional formatting with parenthesis and dashes.
This should be made to handle any formatting to include international phone numbers, as well as special SMS numbers that are not real phone numbers (like Twitter's 40404).
