I'm glad so many people are helping out with this. If you guys can stay with it at this level, we can move quickly.

First, with one tab in six being a timeline, I can't get the tabs to freeze. So the next test, #4 will have all six be timelines and they will be the same ones that are on news.scripting.com.

Not sure where we'll go next depending on the results of that test.

Here's testbed 4.

http://scripting.com/code/testing/tabstest4/

It has all the tabs that are in news.scripting.com.

Do the same things you were doing in previous testbeds.

Go back and forth between the tabs and see if it ever stops responding to your clicks.

I don't know if they are still relevant, but I just submitted comments on Testbed 3 at #287 (comment)

Using Testbed 4:

  • All taps switch to the new tab (all browsers/tablets tested) (Taps never had a freeze/failure to switch.)
  • Taps feels "slower" - there's a hesitation between the tap and the highlight of the new tab
  • Sometimes the highlight comes "right after" the tap (accounting for the slower feel)
  • Sometimes I see a "delayed highlight" where the highlight does not occur until the content arrives. In that case, I see the blue background flash briefly and the content is displayed all at once.
  • I have a sense that the behavior might be different when clicking tabs left-to-right vs right-to-left. The delayed highlight seems to/might occur more often going right-to-left. But I can't be sure of that it really is more frequent.

One last request: If you need to do more tests, would you put "Testbed #" at the top of the page? That helps me keep track... THANKS!

Found an Lenovo tabM10 with Android 10 and Chrome. It's slow, but the tabs always respond.

No problems on iphone 15pro max with safari. When I repeated with Chrome, I noticed that at some point when switching from "Tech" to "Podcasts", iit wouldn't show (it kept the "Tech" content). As I continued, "All" & "Politics" were responding, "Tech" and "Podcasts" stayed the same.

@mbaas -- for this experiment we're only interested in the contents of the tab, ie which tab is highlighted. what's below it is not what we're testing. i want to be clear about what you observed.

ok, sorry for the confusion. Didn't see any issues with highlighting - whatever I clicxked became "curent tab".👍
