Project Description

We would like to add functionality for scheduling the pickup of supplies by partner agencies, working in conjunction with their existing method. This new method should allow banks to set a calendar of pickup days with configurable pickup slots, which partner agencies can claim.

Project Detailed Description

This project is for Ruby for Good's Human Essentials application, an inventory management system for diaper banks, period supply banks, and adult incontinence banks. The application allows banks to manage inventory, schedule distributions to their community partners, and generate reports.

Production website: humanessentials.app

Current Process

Currently, community partners submit a request for supplies from the bank that supports them. The bank then approves the request and sets a time for the partner to pick up the supplies.

New Feature Request

We would like to add a second method for scheduling the pickup of supplies by partner agencies, working in conjunction with the existing method. This new method should allow banks to set a calendar of pickup days with configurable pickup slots, which partner agencies can claim.

Detailed Requirements

The new process should include the following features:

  • Allow banks to set pickup days with a configurable number of pickup slots on a given day.
  • Allow partner agencies who are receiving a distribution to claim an open pickup slot.
  • Send a confirmation email to the partner after they select their pickup time, using the current confirmation template.
  • Send a reminder email to the partner the day before the pickup, using the current reminder template.
  • Add the pickup information to the bank distribution calendar.
  • Add a notification with the correct expiration dates to the partner dashboard, notifying them of the pickup.
  • Allow the marking of distributions as complete, similar to the current pickup process.
  • Allow banks to set, per partner or partner group, how they will schedule their pickups – either the bank continuing to assign pickup times or the partner choosing from set times.

Additional Information

  • The new feature should be developed in a manner that ensures compatibility with the existing codebase and data models.
  • Please refer to the linked GitHub repository for more information on the project's architecture and setup.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to ask.

Project Value

There are thousands of nonprofits using this system and this is going to result in scheduling efficiencies and saved time. These hundreds of saved hours will allow these nonprofits more time to spend helping their communities.
