Steps To Reproduce

  1. Set the following preferences:
  • General -> Tick "View Display Names"

  • General -> Untick "Usernames"

  • View/sort options -> Compact view

    1. Observe how chatters names are displayed in nearby chat, IM chat and group chat.

    Observed Behaviour

  • You will see yours and others names showing as Displayname (Username) in nearby chat, IM and group chat.

  • If you switch to expanded view, only display names are shown.

    Expected Behaviour

    You should only see yours and others display names (if they have one) in nearby chat, IM and group chat.

Hi Whirly. Can you try this with the following build and let me know if it's fixed or not? I'm having trouble understanding what the expected behavior should be.

Heya Marissa,

This bug is fixed on the above build.

Sorry my explanation wasn't clear.
The expected behaviour is that when using compact view (view/sort options -> compact view) and display names were ticked but usernames were unticked under Preferences -> General, then only display names should show in chats like so http://i.imgur.com/zpyAIbY.png (image taken from the build you gave me, showing correct behaviour).

Compare with behaviour on Second Life 3.6.9 (282535) Oct 18 2013 04:31:50 (Second Life Release) which is buggy.... http://i.imgur.com/8ziPltg.png
In above image you will see that chat from ann.pegasi displays her name as " sıuǝɯǝz uuɐ (ann.pegasi)" which is "display name (username) and expected behaviour is that her name should display only as "sıuǝɯǝz uuɐ" which is her display name. You can see the correct behaviour on that image in the greyed out chat history from when I was logged in on the test build you gave me

Hope that makes sense :)

tl;dr: Its fixed ;)

Thanks Whirly. I see where my confusion came from. I was looking at grayed out text, which doesn't change. New chat message are being displayed correctly.
