Steps to Reproduce

Opening the viewer

Actual Behavior

Hi, I installed the project viewer for experience. It is saying that the Media Webkit plugin is failing repeatedly. I reinstalled the viewer and made sure it was allowed through the firewall, but it is still happening.

Expected Behavior

For it to start up ok? Sorry :(

Other information

I am new to filing bugs reports.

Heya Samadhi,

This problem with the "No Media Plugin was found to handle the "text/html" mime type. Media of this type will be unavailable." notifications being spammed like this can happen if the viewer cannot find the file named slplugin.exe within the viewer install folder.
The most likely cause of this is that your antivirus software has deleted or blocked slplugin.

If you go into the viewer install folder, which by default we be at C:\Program Files (x86)\SecondLifeViewer on your system, you should see a file named slplugin.exe in here. If it is missing then your security software deleted it. If it is present then your security software blocked it.
If slplugin.exe is present, whitelist it with your security software.
If slplugin.exe isn't present, reinstall the viewer but do not launch it. Check that slplugin is now present and add it to your security software whitelist before you launch the viewer.

You said you had already whitelisted slplugin after this problem started. Unfortunately with some antivirus software this does not always work.
So if the above steps fail, please try the following:

  • Uninstall the viewer.
  • Download a fresh copy of the installer but do not launch it yet.
  • Close all web browsers and email applications and temporarily disable your antivirus software.
  • Create a new folder within C:\Program Files (x86)
  • Install the viewer into this new folder.
  • Before launching the viewer, even to the login screen, check that slplugin.exe is present in the install folder and whitelist it with your antivirus software.
  • Once this is done, launch the viewer to the login screen and verify that you get no media plugin errors and you see the login screen widgets correctly.
  • If everything is okay, quit the viewer, restart your antivirus software and launch the viewer.

Does this fix your problem?

Our apologies, it appears this jira has been a victim of a spammer. We’re cleaning up the offending comments, sorry for the mess!

I was getting offensive spam emails from this Jira, and I was kinda frightened by them. I was about to file a support request so that the Lindens could be made aware. But I see you are on it. Thank you Saeros. Thank you everyone. I still have trouble with media in SL, but I don't come in world as much as I used to. I have been ill irl. Love you all, I hope the trolls grow up soon.
