Steps to Reproduce

Trying to view a profile

Actual Behavior

When downloading the most recent Second Life update it gave me 3 errors at the end (unable to download) that had to be aborted after retrying them. When I attempt to view a profile it only shows me the about page/info even on my own partner's profile. It shows me a lock on the "profile sidebar" which prompts me to log into Second Life website and only then will it open the whole profile.

Expected Behavior

to view the profile

Other information

I use Second Life on two pc's both are running on Windows 10.

Heya Elayne,

The bug causing the lock to appear on profiles is filed at BUG-10415.

It sounds like you were also having a problem with BUG-7873 during the install, so you may have a buggy viewer installation.
Logout of the viewer.
Open Windows task manager, Processes tab (may be called "Details" on Windows 10).
After the viewer has closed down, if you see any process still running called slvoice.exe, slplugin.exe, win_crash_logger.exe or llceflib_host.exe, right click each process -> End process.
Then run the installer & it should work ok.

Hope that helps :)

Hello Elayne,

Please follow Whirly's advice and reinstall the viewer. Let us know if this worked or not and press the Info Provided button.

Thanks!

I did stop having a problem with the DL after following your directions but I still have the problem with the profile lock. I went to the BUG10415 which prompted me to DL the Valhalla but I am unable to login to the viewer, it wants to update to another second life viewer.

Ahh sorry, I should have made that clear. You don't really want to be using the old Valhalla viewer. You could disable the auto-updates but it's best to stay on the normal release until the bug is fixed.

Just want to note here though that BUG-10415 does appear to be reproducing much more often on the Coro builds and ticking "Remember me on this computer" really isn't sticking across sessions now.

If this bug really is driving you crazy & you want to try using that older Valhalla viewer for now, you can do the following:

  • Install the Valhalla viewer.
  • When the viewer autolaunches after install, quit the viewer.
  • Right click the desktop shortcut for the viewer -> Properties -> Shortcut tab.
  • In the text box to the right of "Target", go to the end of the text, add a space and then type in --channel old
  • Apply -> OK.
  • So, for example, if the Target was set to "I:\Program Files\SecondLifeViewer\SecondLifeViewer.exe" (yours may look different), change this to:
    "I:\Program Files\SecondLifeViewer\SecondLifeViewer.exe" --channel old.
  • The auto-update will not kick in now when you launch the viewer from the shortcut.

Just to note though, I'm not convinced the bug was ever totally fixed on that Valhalla build either. It's probably still going to suffer from the bug periodically, but you can try it.
If it doesn't help, uninstall that Valhalla viewer & delete the shortcut and install the default release again from https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/

Hi Elayne,

Please use the latest viewer from https://get.secondlife.com (Use whirly's advice to close open processes as needed.)

Then once logged in, if you see the Padlock when you open profiles, please click it and login with "Remember me on this computer" checked.

Additionally, you can also login to profiles with a browser like Chrome or Firefox.

In the mean time please know we are working to resolve the outstanding issues.

Thanks!
