Steps to Reproduce

nothing just logged into my home.

Actual Behavior

I am on my land http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Thorlaug/204/215/26 and am hearing media streams from more then one source, I cannot locate the source, I cannot turn it off using the viewer and I cannot listen to my choice of sounds or streams on my own land. None of the viewer controls/preferences have any effect on the sounds I am hearing.

Expected Behavior

to choose the sounds I want to hear and use the viewer controls to turn the sound up/down or off.

Other information

Abut 2 months ago I was on a private island and I had the same issue but I was able to locate the source of the sounds/stream. It was an object in-world, a media viewer . Even though I could not control the sounds using the firestorm viewer preferences in any way, I was able to go to the (object in-world) media screen and control the sound from that object by turning it down on the item in-world. That should not have been the only way to do it.

Hiya ElSolLaLuna,

I went to the above location & some of your neighbours have MOAP (media on a prim) TV sets playing music.
Note that there is a bug in Firestorm 5.0.1 & the LL viewer that can cause MOAP media to play at full volume, even when it's a great distance away - see BUG-40937 for details.
So you could well be hearing media from the neighbour regions too, because of that bug.

You should be able to locate the source of the media however.
When you can hear the media playing, hover your mouse over the media play/pause icon top right in the top menu bar & click the "More" button.

You should then see a list of all media sources that the viewer has picked up.
Left click each media source and then click the (+) spyglass button on the right.
This will zoom your camera onto the media source.
If you click the stop [] button on the left. this will stop that media source from playing.

If you have media autoplay enabled, the same problem will keep happening though, so I suggest you disable media autoplay.
Preferences -> Sound & Media -> Media -> untick "Allow media to autoplay".
You probably also want to untick "Allow inworld scripts to play media" and "Play media attached to other avatars".

Does this fix the problem?

I did as you suggested disabled the autoplay. And I found where the media could be stopped for objects/sources not on my partial. Both of these solutions fix the problem. Though Now to get my own media or the media I expect to hear I have to physically turn it on each time. I do hope this gets fixed soon.

Glad that helped.
Yeah there isn't an ideal solution to this problem - you either have to disable media autoplay (which affects your own media too) or fiddle around every session locating the media you don't want to hear & stop it playing.

LL are working on a fix for BUG-40937 though (https://bitbucket.org/lindenlab/viewer64-callum/commits/8fc5df2f7dcab8d9da3fc480d455b34e7504e8dc) & hopefully it will be in a LL RC viewer soon and the Firestorm will pick up the fix too.
Getting that bug fixed should lessen this problem a lot, though you may still hear neighbours media if it is very close when autoplay is enabled but it won't be blasting at full volume.

It's a pity we don't have the option in the viewers to only autoplay media from objects you own.

Whirls, see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-10416 for the closest thing to that.

Hi ElSolLaLuna,

Thank you for working with Whirly to sort out how to use the media controls to disable audio and streaming media you do not want to hear or see.

This is a duplicate of BUG-40937 which should be addressed in our 64bit viewer for Windows systems coming to a release near you!

Thanks!
