WiFi connection problem #20
Comments
Hi I'm confused. Are you using the RethinkDNS app or the RethinkDNS resolver? If you're using the latter, then on which OS? |
Hello, That said, I'm using the app on Android 8.1. |
No need to apologize (: To be clear: When you connect your Android running the RethinkDNS app to WiFi hotspot or to public WiFi, you see zero DNS queries? That is, you lose internet connectivity on your Android? |
Yes, that is correct. If I open the web browser and try to open a site, I get an error saying that "dns probe started". Not sure if it helps. |
Okay, that makes sense. We do not handle captive portals (public WiFi that requires authenticate before letting users access internet). One way around it is to pause the RethinkDNS app, authenticate with the captive portal once, and then unpause it: The pause button is on the homescreen, left-aligned on the main start/stop button. We intend to handle captive portals, possibly by end of year or so: celzero/rethink-app/issues/59 Reg: connectivity loss over a WiFi hotspot: That's a new one. I have never encountered this bug myself before, nor has anyone reported it. If you'd please list down the steps, that'd be helpful. Here's what I did (and the RethinkDNS app worked just fine in my case):
|
Ok. I figured out the problem. For some reason when I set the hotspot wps connection with pin number, it won't work. But if I choose press button, then it works fine. I thought that I did. |
Thanks for reporting back. For captive-portal related issue, let's track it at celzero/rethink-app/issues/59 Closing this issue. Re-open if you think there's more to discuss. Thx again. |
First of all, I searched for "wifi", and couldn't find any similar issue.
That said, I created a WiFi hotspot using a mobile device. After connecting to it, I get no dns queries. The same happens with public WiFi. It connects, but no dns response.
If I create a Bluetooth hotspot, then it works well.
I tried to add dns ips into wifi settings, but didn't help.
Thanks
