I have sorted the issue now. Previously I was trying to attach the IAM role to the lambda authoriser itself. Instead, the role/policy to invoke the lambdas should actually be attached to the API GW authoriser like below;

I am trying to apply a resourcePolicy to my custom authoriser lambda, so that my HTTP API can invoke the authoriser lambda.
This is my provider setup for the lambda;
When the lambda is deployed there is no attached resourcePolicy. The serverless generated cloud formation includes the resource policy;
