I just stumbled upon this config option and I'm not even entirely sure about the implications yet, thought I might give you a heads up.

It on my todo list. But since it supported only in version 2.8.1, i leaving the ENV["BUNDLE_GEMFILE"] workaround for now for backward compatibility.
