Expected behavior

Campus crime statisticians and prospective parents and students can easily find sfcrimedata.org via Google Search to provide them with meaningful and user-friendly information on campus safety.

Actual behavior

sfcrimedata.org does not rank well in any search scenario.

Steps to reproduce

Launch google.com. Search for 'SF Crime Data'. sfcrimedata.org shows up at the bottom of the third page of search results. (as of late Feb, 2017).

Steps to improve

  • Identify Keywords that searchers will use to find campus safety stats. Figure out: Who are the people who are looking for us? What are they searching for? Incorporate into the site. Need not be visible.
  • Write a Description for sfcrimedata.org (should be less than 70 characters). Incorporate into the site. Need not be visible.
  • Reevaluate success over time and change the Description and mix of Keywords as needed.
  • Create static URL's for each Clery Act category that will default to a meaningful search that will provide dynamic content daily.
    • sfcrimedata.org/aggravated_assault
    • sfcrimedata.org/arson
    • sfcrimedata.org/burglary
    • etc.
  • Get other sites to link to us.
