Up until this latest update a couple of days ago, this local html file displayed fine in the sidebar, using the following path: D:\firefoxfiles\guides.htm. Now, it does not. Online webpages still work, but not local files.

I also tried this path: file:///D:/firefoxfiles/guides.htm, but it also doesn't work.

I saw that Webpage-Sidebar was updated yesterday, so I removed then reinstalled it. Still no joy. Firefox Add-On Manager says I am using version 0.0.4.

Any help much appreciated!

I think that should not happened also before firefox 60.0. It looks like they fixed their security hole.

My dev console (ff 62.0a1) says like below when try to open local addressed file:

보안 오류: moz-extension://(extension-id)/launcher/launcher.html의 내용은 file:///E:/Desktop/me.html에 연결할 수 없습니다.

Security error: Content of moz-extension://(extension id)/launcher/launcher.html can't connect to file:///E:/Desktop/me.html .

As far as I know opening local files without user's selection (which requires opening file dialog to choose file each time) is forbidden on firefox webextension for security reason.

For your case, I suggest to use bookmark. this is not well-known feature of firefox, you can set a bookmark to open on a sidebar.

  1. open libraries window ctrl + shift + b
  2. find your local file bookmark and select it
  3. click more button
  4. check on Load this bookmark in the sidebar
  5. open that bookmark in whatever way you want

For this addon, there's some workaround but there's no easy one. I'll add todolist in another issue

That bookmark feature hasn't worked for local files since the big change in FF a few months ago, at least not for me.

That was the reason I installed your plugin. If it is also not going to work with local files, I don't have a reason to keep using it. :(

Sadly I can't help you 😢
When I tried the bookmark feature on local file on my firefox (62.0a1 nightly) that worked... Trying once again will not hurt anyone. sorry. I suggest you to check your bookmark address starting with file:///.
