This is part of a series of periodic updates of development in Shadow. This work is sponsored by the NSF. Previous update: 2022-12.
We've merged 130 non-dependabot pull requests and closed 15 issues since our previous update.
Project planning
We had an internal planning workshop in January. We worked on several roadmaps:
Release status
We released Shadow 2.4.0 and Shadow 2.5.0. These include a number of stability improvements; see release notes for details.
Our next planned release is Shadow 3.0.0. This will include a number of breaking changes to improve shadow's config files and shutdown behavior. We also plan to drop support for some EOL platforms, and change our stability guarantee going forward so that we can drop support for EOL platforms without a major version bump. Dropping support for these platforms and giving ourselves this flexibility going forward will help reduce maintenance overhead, and allow us to make some internal improvements that rely on newer versions of dependencies such as glibc. For the full list of planned breaking changes see #2496.
Happy simulating!
