This is something that I'm considering tackling but was curious how others felt about eliminating jquery/zepto dependency?

I think I've seen talk about this around here (or perhaps on HN), but I'm not sure.

Unless there are some strong arguments for using jQuery in this context, I think we should help paint the picture that you might not always need jQuery and ditch it entirely.

I juggled this on and off, and then dumped my thoughts here. Let's continue the discussion there.

I'd be interested in seeing how compact a 100% equivalent vanilla alternative would look, and how it compares to the < 10KB that Zepto + shoelace.js requires.

Another point I made was that using Zepto as a base (and jQuery as an alternative) provides a foundation for building elegant third-party components. But like I said, let's discuss it in #21.
