Minimal version of signal?

It'd be useful to have a minimal version of signal that doesn't require updates so often. One without unnecessary features. Its not great having to audit the source code and build the app so often.

You mean like a LTS version of Linux or Firefox? I doubt that is what Signal wants - it is extra development time and it can slow down rolling out features.

Yes. Sure, I'm just thinking from a user security perspective. Non-security related features aren't urgent from that point of view.

Ideally you would have a fully open source piece of software that you only have audit and rebuild when security-essential changes are made. That's the de-facto standard for "techie"-oriented software.

Also, for reproducible builds to be useful, you'd want third parties to be regularly building them and publishing their hashes. I don't see that happening, so that casts some doubts on the current state of signal reproducible builds.
