Bug description

Describe here the issue that you are experiencing.

While using the TalkBack screen reader on my Google Pixel 7, performance within the Signal app is terribly sluggish. I noticed this start a couple app versions back and it seems to progressively get worse.

Steps to reproduce

  • Enable TalkBack on a Google Pixel phone: https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/6007100?hl=en
  • Open Signal.
  • Start swiping around on the screen. Once you navigate to the next elements after the chats list, the sluggishness begins. Around the Chats, Calls, etc. tabs. You can also reproduce this by opening an existing chat and exploring the messages.
  • Restarting TalkBack or Signal does not help.

Actual result: Describe here what happens after you run the steps above (i.e. the buggy behaviour)
Extreme lag/sluggishness.

Expected result: Describe here what should happen after you run the steps above (i.e. what would be the correct behaviour)
App should function with great speed, as it used to.
