Bug Description

Signal, is and most definitely will be getting blocked by multiple Carriers/ISPs around the world. For most people using system-wide VPNs, apart from being too much hassle, is too battery/bandwidth consuming.

Actual Result:
System-wide VPNs are currently the only solution.

Expected Result:

  • Sharable Proxies and VPNs inside the app.
  • In-app configurable Server and Port.

In the recent internet blackout, people have encountered this exact limitation. There were some proxies working out there, yet there were no easy way to set it up for Signal.

I'd consider this as a high priority feature request.

The internet blackout was so bad for all my friends. A much needed contingency test of signal and other vital communication apps and systems. Nearly nobody had heard of peer-to-peer messaging apps.
