  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates

Bug Description

The app randomly becomes blurry.

  • it's not uniform - different parts of the app can be more or less blurry than others
  • this includes text, icons, main menu, avatars and media
  • hovering over elements or otherwise causing a redraw temporarily fixes it in that spot, only for it eventually become blurry again
  • I have not seen this happen in any other app on this PC other than signal

Steps to Reproduce

This happens randomly. Sometimes it can be ok for hours, sometimes it happens minutes after starting the app. Moving the main window around seems to trigger this faster.

Actual Result: blurry

Expected Result: not blurry :)

Thanks for reporting.

We've made some important internal changes recently that might have solved your problem. You can wait for our next production release to see if that solves your issue, but if you want to test our fix now, you can install the beta and get the latest fixes. Either way, let us know if that solves your issue.

I've installed the beta. I'll let you know how it went after I've been using it for a while.

Seems to be happening with the beta as well ☹️

I don't exactly know why this is happening, but some people have seen this problem with Visual Studio Code and changed some GPU settings with some success: microsoft/vscode#51789

I don't think users should have to do that, though, and we'd like to investigate a better solution. Let us know if the GPU changes work for you.

I've actually turned "Antialiasing - FXAA" on recently, so maybe that caused it. I'll turn it off and let you know in a few days. Thanks for the tip.

It's been fine since I've turned FXAA off for the signal process.

Confirmed, turned off FXAA in 3D settings for Nvidia graphics and this solved the issue. Thank you!

Can also confirm, disabling FXAA in Nvidia control panel fixed the issue for me.

I am having this issue (mostly noting it with text blurring) with Signal 6.36.0 on Windows 11 despite FXAA being disabled (Nvidia).
