No automatic reconnect on macOS after suspend #5336
Comments
I have a gut feeling that this might be related to using wireless and the fact that it takes a couple of seconds until a working connection has been re-established. |
Same behaviour on Archlinux desktop without wireless. After resume it stucks in "Shouldn't be long..." state forever. v5.4.1, but on several previous versions it acted same way. Helps only quiting from Signal and launching it again. |
Please try with 5.5.0, they've been working on this. Please add debug logs if it still doesn't work with this version. |

My original issue on macOS seems to have gone away; could not reproduce it after three attempts. Thanks for the quick fix! |
Update. Yesterday after posting debug log I left Signal in state Disconnected/Connect and suspended computer. Today after resume it connected without help. |
Great! Next time please use View / Debug log / Submit to add a debug log, that's easier to read. |
Closing as my original issue has been resolved. Thanks again! |
Bug Description
On a 2020 Macbook Air M1 running Big Sur, Signal regularly does not (fully) reconnect automatically after resuming the laptop. Signal has to be closed and re-opened in order to continue normal operation. For me, this bug has existed for several Signal versions.
Steps to Reproduce
Actual Result:
The yellow banner saying "Connecting - Shouldn't be long..." is displayed indefinitely. Messages sent e.g. to "Note to Self"
are received by other clients, but messages sent from other clients are not received on this machine.
Expected Result:
The yellow banner should go away after a few seconds and sending/receiving messages should work "normally".
