I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.
Bug Description
On my freshly installed Windows 11 I cannot use Signal Desktop, because the QR code is distorted somehow. I use 2 4k screens, normally I use 3840x2160 with 150% scaling, but I would be fine if the QR code would be rendered with any possible display settings.
What I tried:
Changing display resolution to 1920x1080, restarted Windows, resetted Signal, did not work
Setting display resolution to 3840x2160, restarted Windows, resetted Signal, did not work
Setting display resolution to 3840x2160 with scaling to 150% (Windows setting), restarted Windows, resetted Signal, did not work
I also played around with the Signal scaling options in the settings. The corrupted QR code does change size but does not change to a working barcode.
Additionally it did not help when I played around with the Windows compatibility settings (right clicking Signal.exe in Windows Explorer), I tried to change DPI settings here and compatibility mode for older Windows versions (only with resolution 3840x2160 and scaling 150%).
Please let me know if I can test anything else.
Steps to Reproduce
I guess this problem cannot be reproduced easily, but anyway - what I did:
Install Windows 11 (German version)
Install some drivers via Windows Update (I use the integrated graphics of my i7-11700K)
Maybe I installed some programs, but nothing display related
Install Signal Desktop 5.20.0, directly from the Signal website (problem was already here at this time)
Update Signal Desktop to 5.22.0 (did not help)
Actual Result:
A QR code which cannot be scanned, as in the screenshot below
Expected Result:
A scannable, working QR code.
Or alternatively I would be fine with an option "Export QR code to image".
Screenshots
Signal magnifying setting 200%:
Signal magnifying setting 75%:
Platform Info
Signal Version:
5.22.0
Operating System:
Windows 11 Pro 64 bit (Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000)
Linked Device Version: 5.25.8 (but does not matter)
The issue is a duplicate of #4627 which I found right now but not before, sorry for that. From there, it looks like it's the Intel graphics driver's fault, the workaround Windows 7 compatibility mode worked for me.
