when the connection stutters on other video calling services the audio and video is separated and so the video could sart lagging but the audio stays stable. in signal desktop on linux (with pipewire) any connection problem causes the audio to stutter as well

Thanks for reporting this. Could you provide more information about the version of linux and Signal Desktop you are using, what distribution you installed Signal from. Having a debug log would also help us investigate this! So if you could reproduce the audio stutter and send us the debug log generated right after that - it should be very useful!

Thanks for looking into it. I'm using archlinux with the latest signal from the official repos. Not sure i can get a debug log but i'll see what i can do

@gothmog123 unfortunately Arch Linux is not officially supported at the moment. If you would manage to reproduce it - we would still love to take a look at the debug log.

no problem. but by the way is this actually a bug on my end or is it standard behaviour in signal desktop? is audio usually separated for other users?

I believe that video and audio could go slightly out of sync in the current implementation, but it shouldn't be stuttering or lagging behind a lot. Thus debug logs would still be useful for us, unless it will turn out to be something specific to the unofficial distribution of the app.

i think it's unlikely. arch usually ships vanilla packages. it could be due to pipewire and wayland maybe

Definitely can't exclude these two. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely familiar with this software so can't comment much about how it can interact with our app. Sorry!
