  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.
Using the signal-desktop Arch Linux package, however I think it's more likely that this is an issue in Signal Desktop itself.

Bug Description

Choice of "Only share with" wasn't getting saved during Desktop's first-time My Story privacy settings configuration when sending a story, but configuring it in Desktop's story settings worked.

Steps to Reproduce

The following steps may not be necessary, but for completeness:

  1. Updated Signal Desktop to 6.0.0. Stories icon appeared, after some time the onboarding story was downloaded and the "1" badge count appeared on the stories icon.
  2. Pressed the stories icon.
  3. Viewed the onboarding story, then closed it.
  4. Opened story settings. Observed My Story has 7 viewers listed, and when pressing on it, "All Signal connections" is selected. Closed story settings.

Steps to actually reproduce:

  1. Pressed "+" > Text story.
  2. Typed some text.
  3. Pressed "Next".
  4. Pressed on My Story and was asked to pick the desired set of recipients (as this is the first-time experience).
  5. Picked "Only share with", chose all 5 of the visible contacts (without searching).
  6. Pressed "Done".

Actual Result: The selection still said "All Signal connections". The chosen set of recipients wasn't saved: trying to pick "Only share with" again shows the picker with no contacts selected.

Expected Result: The chosen set of recipients should be saved.

After that, as a workaround to configure My Story as desired, the following was done:

  1. Closed the recipient picker, draft story, etc.
  2. Went to story settings > "My Story" > "Only share with" > chose the same (all) 5 contacts > pressed "Done".
  3. This selection was saved and it was possible to later send an image story to My Story.

I have some similar issue on Signal for macOS version 6.39.0 and this might be connected when going through the My Story windows with the tabs key, I noticed that only the radio button at "All except..." is clickable. Could this have something to do with this issue? 🤔
