  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Bug Description

See title : )

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Send optimized PNG file, e.g. this QR code (727 bytes):
    sound of silence qr
  2. Save image from Signal back to your device

Actual Result: "Compressed" image size is 20 KB (28 times! more)

Expected Result: Compression should not increase image size

Similar issue for Signal Android: signalapp/Signal-Android#12796

Platform Info

Signal Version: 6.6.0
Operating System: Ubuntu 22.10
