  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Bug Description

After verifying a contact on the desktop app, I cannot send messages to him (or any other groups we're both on) using the Android app, but it works normally using desktop app. I can still receive the contact's messages normally both on desktop and Android app. Other contacts still working as intended, the problem only happens with this one contact that switched devices and I verified the safety number using desktop app. Both apps are updated to the latest version available to me (6.10.1 desktop, 6.13.7 Android). Tried restarting the phone to no avail. Clearing the app cache also didn't fix the issue.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. have a contact change their device
  2. verify their new safety number using desktop app
  3. try to message contact using Android app

Actual Result:

Outgoing messages fail to send, whether they're private messages for the contact or group messages to groups we're both members of. I can still receive messages from the affected contact, and sending/receiving messages to other people or to groups he's not a member of are working as intended.

Expected Result:

Being able to send messages normally (I don't even recall being unable to send messages to someone simply due to not having verified their safety number before, has this ever been a feature?).

Hi, could you also capture a debuglog from the desktop client?

Just an update in case anyone else stumbles onto this problem, I was able to "fix" the bug by reinstalling the Android app. Backed up my messages first, uninstalled, reinstalled, restored the backup and now I'm able to send messages to the affected contact again.

It now occurs to me that maybe I should have created this bug report in the Android app section, even though the bug was apparently caused by the Desktop app. My apologies if that's the case.
