Enemy Randomizer Improvements

  • Defeated enemies are now tracked and won't respawn until you rest at a campfire statue.
    • This currently only persists until you close the game or load a different save file. If you close the game or switch to a different save and later go back to the file you were playing before, all the enemies will respawn.
  • Five more enemy types have been added to the pool of possible random enemy spawns:
    • The friendly administrator servant from the Library
    • The stronger fox enemies from the Cathedral
    • Three leftover/unused enemies from the Devworld
  • Reduced the max hp of the neon Garden Knight enemies
  • Turrets will properly activate when they are aggro'd by the player now.
  • Fixed some enemies that weren't being randomized.

Other Changes

  • Starting with this version, the title screen will display a notification if there is a newer version of the randomizer available:
  • The game will now automatically switch back to daytime if you die on the first visit to the heir, and the keyboard shortcut for switching the time of day has been removed. Instead, a new day/night switch will appear in the Old House after your first interaction with the heir.
  • The missing page count on the game over screen is accurate again.
  • Ability Shuffling is still disabled when playing Hexagon Quest, but this is planned to be fixed in the next update.

Enemy Randomizer + Logic Overhaul

Enemy Randomizer

Enemy Randomization has been added to the Tunic Randomizer! With this mode, every enemy will be randomly swapped with a different one when you load into an area. A few settings are available to change how the mode functions:

  • "Extra Enemies" will spawn additional enemies in certain areas of the game, mainly in spots where new enemies show up in NG+. Enable it to take the difficulty up a notch!
  • Two options for determining enemy difficulty:
    • "Random" will simply choose randomly from the full list of enemies when replacing any particular enemy.
    • "Balanced" mode takes the difficulty of the original enemy into account when determining what to replace it with.
  • Bosses are not randomized, and enemies are not able to be randomized into any of the major bosses (yet...?)
  • You may encounter a few unfamiliar foes along the way...

Logic Overhaul

The item shuffling logic used by the randomizer has been rewritten, allowing for more variety in when and where certain items and locations are able to be accessed. Massive thanks to @jimtheeternal for helping bring this together!

Ability Shuffling

With this new logic also comes the Ability Shuffling setting, which locks certain abilities behind needing their respective pages in the instruction manual. The following is restricted with Ability Shuffling enabled:

  • Prayer is locked until you find Page 24.
  • Most Holy Cross codes are locked until you find Page 43.
    • This setting mainly affects items gated behind holy cross codes, like fairy chests, holy cross doors/walls, etc.
    • The free bomb codes are still accessible without needing Page 43 first, as are other player-facing codes such as big head mode, sunglasses, cheaper ice rod, and the fairy seeking spell.
  • The Ice Rod combo technique is locked until you find Page 53.
  • This option currently does nothing when playing Hexagon Quest, as all pages are given at the start of that mode. It is recommended to disable this setting before starting a game of Hexagon Quest just to be on the safe side.

Other Logic Changes

  • The mailbox hint will no longer always be for the Lantern. It will now attempt to point you in the direction of a number of items that may be useful at the start of the game.
  • With ability shuffling turned on, the Prayer and Holy Cross pages are added to the list of possible Path of the Hero hints from the Hero Graves. The Ice Rod page is also added to the list of possible Ghost Fox Hints.

Misc Changes

  • Fixed issues with the well not giving money or fairies
  • Stat upgrade levels are now tracked in the item tracker file
  • The Dath Stone and secret Golden Item were added to the speedrun finish line display
  • You will no longer be scammed when buying money in the shop (but you may still be fooled!)

Bugfixes and Misc Changes

  • Split the hints setting into two settings:
    • "Path of the Hero Hints" will toggle the Mailbox, Hero's Grave, and Sealed Temple hints
    • "Ghost Fox Hints" will toggle whether or not the ghost foxes will spawn
  • Updated certain ghost fox hints to be less ambiguous
  • Fixed a bug where money rewards would not be granted from tossing coins in the well
  • Mouse cursor will only appear when there is a menu on screen that uses it (Quick Settings/Palette Editor)
  • Fixed bug where bonus upgrades would be duplicated after restarting the game
  • Reduced lag when using the in-game fox palette editor
  • The camera will zoom in when the palette editor is open for a close-up of the fox when customizing

New Hint System + QoL Features

The Tunic Randomizer has been updated to v0.0.9, adding a big update to the hint system, as well as new QoL features and bugfixes.

New Hint System

New Hint Types

  • Hard-to-reach locations
    • Gives away an item at a difficult to reach location (e.e. skulls in swamp, cathedral gauntlet, 15 coin tosses, etc.)
  • Minor Progression Items
    • Gives away the location of a lesser key item (e.g. sword, shield, shotgun, hero relics, etc.)
  • Barren/Treasure Hints
    • Gives away a location that contains either nothing of value (e.g. consumables only) or that contains a large amount of money.
  • A guaranteed hint for Hero's Laurels located in the Sealed Temple.

Hint Locations

  • A total of 15 hints (5 of each type) will be given to you by new ghost fox NPCs located around the world. There are over 50 unique spawns for these ghosts, all with their own custom trunic dialogue (thanks to JimTheEternal for helping come up with and translating a majority of these!), meaning every run will likely feature an entirely different set of ghosts to seek out!

New QoL Features

Quick Settings

  • A new menu on the title screen that allows you to quickly change settings and set a custom seed before starting a New Game.

Fox Customization 2.0

  • An in-depth editor for changing the fox colors to be exactly how you want has been added.
    • Allows for the color of Laurels to be changed
  • An option to use a saved custom texture on every game load has been added.
    • Texture must be placed in C:\Users<You>\AppData\LocalLow\Andrew Shouldice\Secret Legend\Randomizer\texture.png
  • An option to always have Sunglasses on has been added.

Fairy Spell

  • The Fairy Seeker spell (URULDR) will now seek out all items in a given area.
  • If all items in an area have been collected, the spell will seek out the closest load zone to an area that has uncollected items (if one exists).

Misc. Fixes

  • Random Fox Colors will now randomize to any possible RGB value, giving more possible combinations of colors.
    • The color of the Hero Laurels will also be randomized!
  • Money pickups have been changed to be more apparent.
  • The Lvl 4 Sword Upgrade will no longer interact with metal objects, including enemy shields.
  • Visible Hero Relic pickups appear as a different color to make them stand out from regular upgrade offerings.
  • Fairy chests now release a fairy instead of displaying a text box.
  • The spoiler log will now mark which items you have collected.
  • The Dath Stone will tell you where your last save point is located when used.
  • Custom UI elements have been resized to display properly on Steam Deck

New Game Modes, Features, and Options

The Tunic Randomizer mod has been updated to Version 0.0.8, its biggest update yet! A variety of new features and options have been added.

New Features

Hexagon Quest

  • Hexagon Quest is a new game mode introduced that adds 30 Golden Hexagons into the item pool. Find 20 of them and visit the heir to win the game!

Freestanding Items + Chests Match Contents

  • All freestanding items (item pickups, pages, shop items, etc.) are swapped to display the randomized item they contain.
  • Chests also have their textures changed if they contain certain special items.

Sword Progression

  • Sword Progression adds an extra sword into the item pool and replaces the existing Stick and Sword items with Sword Level items.
  • Each time a Sword Level is found, your melee weapon will be upgraded, starting with the Stick at Lv. 1 and going up to the Lv. 4 Sword.

Keys Behind Bosses

  • With this option turned on, the 3 Hexagon Keys will be placed behind their respective boss fight.

Bonus Upgrades

  • Golden Trophy items will now give a free +1 level to specific stats. Collect them all!
  • Hero Relics will also give a free +1 level increase to their respective stat.

Progress Tracker

  • The progress tracker is now built into the inventory screen.

Misc. Changes/Bug Fixes

  • The randomizer settings menu has been remade and adds toggles for the new features listed above.
  • The Dath Stone will no longer softlock when used in certain areas.
  • The game will continue running in the background when tabbed out while the mod is installed.
  • Changed the names of certain locations on path of the hero hints.
  • The Spoiler Log, Settings file and item tracker file have been moved to a new folder titled "Randomizer" within the game's AppData folder

Fixed two bugs from the initial 0.0.7 release:

  • Custom shop item message could be accidentally applied to the non-randomized shop items.
  • A certain item would always appear in the inventory by mistake

Improvements

Scavenger's Mask and Lantern Logic

The logic has been updated to account for the following scenarios:

  • Scavenger's Mask being shuffled inside Ziggurat and the corrupted parts of Quarry.
  • Lantern being shuffled into the corrupted parts of Quarry.

Speedrun Finish Line

  • The "Finish Line" that appears at the end of the game now matches what you obtained in the randomizer.
  • The "Game Over" screen now displays the correct amount of (randomized) pages missing.

  • Save Files that were created with the randomizer are now marked as such on the file select screen.
  • The save files are also appended with "-randomizer" to make them easily identifiable when searching the save folder.

  • The Spoiler Log now has a description for every location to make it easier to find that last check you're missing!
  • Thank you to JimTheEternal for assisting with the creation of these.

Other Changes

  • The second stick that was in the item pool has been replaced with a new, potentially handy item.
  • The item counter screen has been updated to show the correct total amount of items (301 instead of 300)

New Patch Compatibility

Changes

  • Mod is now compatible with the latest patch for TUNIC.
  • Fixed an edge case in the randomizer logic that would allow items to spawn in places they logically shouldn't.
    • Note: This change to the logic changes every seed from the last version, so seeds started on older versions will be different in this version.
  • Updated some of the hint text glyph translations to be more accurate.
  • Removed the in-game timer overlay setting as there is now an official Speedrun Mode in the game.
  • The fast forward cheat option is now mapped to backslash instead of semicolon.
