what are your thoughts of supporting gdsfactory as one of the tools offered by silicon compiler?

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't think we have the bandwidth to add support ourselves at the moment, but we could accept a community contribution that does this. Note that you can also implement additional tool drivers without modifying the core source of SC, so you could have a project that runs gdsfactory jobs through SC without landing a PR.

Based on a quick skim, it looks like gdsfactory itself is a Python library, and designs can be defined as Python scripts themselves. If you could provide more info on the execution model (is my understanding correct? is there a way to execute gdsfactory via the CLI as well?), I could provide some pointers on how best to integrate it with SC.
