Question

I am using: 5.7.2 (43) simplex-desktop-appimage, via the App Image on Linux (Manjaro).

I am using Tor.

There are no errors in the terminal or dev console.

When I send a message all that happens is that it stays there. No sending tick appears and even if it does, it won't actually deliver said message.

Background: There has been some degredation over the past few days, at first I could send thing, then those things wouldn't deliver, then I couldn't use the moderation tools and finally all sending ability has disappeared.

I have tried reinstalling, I've tried restarting tor (other apps using tor work fine), I've tried killing and restarting the app, I've tried disabling chat and re-enabling it. I've checked the tor proxy details.

Halp?

an improvement for message delivery issues is coming soon (in v5.7.4 version), so hopefully it will help in this case, beyond that, is your internet connection slow by any chance? are you in a lot of groups?

My internet speed for this connection is about 20MB/s.

I had 5 individual connections and one group with 4 other people. (So 9 people in total).

I have tor enabled, and use onion servers where appropriate. I can't find any alternative servers so I'm just using the ones simplex provides.

I tried reinstalling again but now the appimage doesn't wanna play.... all of the people who were chatting with me on SimpleX have now stopped using it because of this problem. Not everyone is experiencing the problem but a number of us are.

could you try running the AppImage from terminal and see if there is any specific error?

Execv error: no such file or directory

In fairness I am using the one from the AUR, so I posted a comment there wondering if the problem lay with them. However, I have since downloaded the 5.7.3 version from the releases and can confirm, same result.

interesting, it's working on my side (debian 12), it must be a missing package, I don't remember which ones are required, but could you try installing fuse3?

It's already installed. The appimage on the aur only lists fuse2 as a dependency but fuse3 is on my system. As is squashfuse (which may be related)

I now have SimpleX working again, but I've installed it from a different package.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/simplex-desktop-bin

This does not use AppImage which appears to be the problem and uses https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/releases/download/v5.7.4/simplex-desktop-ubuntu-22_04-x86_64.deb as the source.

I see a lot of users commenting on how they can restart Simplex within the app but I cannot seem to find this in the desktop app...

on desktop you can just close it and open it again, restart option within app is only needed on mobile devices where the operating system's app closing functionality is hidden in confusing menus that some users struggle finding
