Wait a second. What do you mean by "preinstalled in new WSL apps" and where did you get that info?
It's definitely not included in my WSL2 Ubuntu, which caused this to break for me. I had to install wslu from a third-party package registry because it was not on the official Ubuntu package registry either.
Not sure why it didn't work before but apparently the expected package is ubuntu-wsl when using Ubuntu and according to the wslutilities repo it is pre-installed in "new apps" (probably meaning newer WSL distros?). It wasn't pre-installed in my pre-existing WSL Linux which I upgraded from WSL1 so it's probably a good idea to check if the command exists and give a more meaningful error message instead.
Regarding this #170 issue, I created an issue in WSL (microsoft/WSL#4981) and discovered this https://github.com/wslutilities/wslu, which is preinstalled in new WSL apps and offer the
wslview
utility, to open URLs.What do you think about using it, @sindresorhus @pluma ?
