Open a file saved on a legacy version of Sketch? #217

I have a file that when I attempt to open it I get the following error message...

This document was last saved in a legacy version of Sketch. To open the document in the latest version, please open and save it in Sketch 53 first.

However, when I download v53 and attempt to open the file again, it just results in an error. Is there a workaround for this?
