Alternative for Bintray #1826

Here are some free alternatives: |
So, I may have like 'unlimited' space via a hosting service I use, and I can set up as many domains attached to it as I want, Since this is where my primary domain is and I have had it over 10 years, it might be a nice option. Only thing needed would be a host name. Let me know. |
Hey @duckunix, thanks for the feedback. Is there a cost involved and could it handle potentially tens or even hundreds of thousands of downloads per month without any bandwidth issues? |
Cost would be if we need a domain name. I have a few, but not sure if you want to use them. :) |
Personally I don't think the domain name really matters |
Kinda agree, but:
* The hosting provider I use does VHOST by name, so need something to put
in the .rb files
* At some point, we might want to set up a website away from github, and
changing names after it has been out for a while is hard...

Why would we need to change name? |
The current downloads point to a domain the project does not control, and we either have to come up with lots of money per month, or move. Hence, the need for a new domain. |
Ah right, thanks for clearing that up, makes perfect sense. |
In the very short run we might consider making a separate bintray account
per architecture. I don't know if that is OK in respect to their terms of
service.
That means more logistic tedium in uploading/maintaining, but it would get
us the space we need.
In the longer run, I'm a little wary of "unlimited" hosting providers -
This last year I got "invited" to move one of my personal websites because
of the 50 GB of files I had there - they basically told me that I had 7
days to move the files elsewhere, or they would delete them. It was ....
inconvenient.
That said, 10 or 20G of files doesn't seem like a lot...
I've worked with digital ocean accounts - for their smallest plan -
$5/month - you get 25GB, of which about 18GB is actually usable because the
rest is operating system (e.g. centos....) But it takes doing your own
management, software updates etc.
As long as we have a plan to move quickly in the future, picking an
'unlimited' hosting provide would work fine, until some employee there has
a bad day.
bluehost used to be good - haven't used them in a while...
https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/price#shared
As for domain names, you can use any domain you currently have - or I have
a few also, and just make a 'subdomain' - like I have the
iwontfixyourcomputer.com domain - so I could set up a host name '
chromebrew.iwontfixyourcomputer.com' and point it at whatever hosting plan
we end up in. ( I have several other domains - let me know if you want a
list). Anyway, pick one of the domains you like and run with it. Also if
you end up buying a NEW hosting plan often a domain name registration is
bundled in... and chromebrew.org hasn't been registered yet.
I'll also check with my employer about letting me set up a box in one of
our colos - might be able to convince him to let me do it for free... dont
hold your breath though.

OK guys, it appears we have reached the 10 gb limit imposed on open source projects at bintray.com. We need to start thinking about alternative solutions because Bintray wants to charge $150 per month to start since we need more space. If anybody has ideas for a better alternative binary repository, please state your case and why it would be a good solution.
Thanks
