Describe the feature you are interested in ...

Currently, glmnet library has not been updated since 2020, and this is now a bottleneck for the dependencies. I did reach out to them to be a maintainer and got no response. We have also bunch of issues in their repo civisanalytics/python-glmnet#76. It does make sense to copy the repo into a new one with updated dependencies. In this way we wont depend on them anymore.
