A HL2 companion PA would be a nice option to have. See this thread:

The layout is at a stage where I was brave enough to order 3 prototype PCBs and parts. I'll probably have them in a bit less than 2 weeks and will share my results. When it's working, I'd be happy to merge the companion PA into this repository.
