The idea of taking the window name is pretty basic but good one.
BUT, there is no way to extract the title or the artist, so you are not really getting the "song name".
There are severals scenarios you can have '-' in the artist name, or in a song name, so splitting '-' doesn't work 100%.
This, however, is the only working method I know myself. Hope someone will someday find a smart way to get a full solution.

While I agree with you, this was the quickest and simplest solution after Spotify deprecated the local API. Before that I had a solution which got the artist and title separately and stitched them together in a string. It also was able to get album cover and more. Unfortunately not anymore.
A workaround would be using the web-api but this requires authentication and a web server to handle the key exchange.
Regarding your concerns of splitting the track using "-" there really is no other method the way I do it. For streamers who just want the current playing track on display it's still a good solution since the window title is always set to "artist - title".
This tool was mainly designed to be used by streamers on Twitch, YouTube, Mixer and so on.
