I initially wrote this plugin back in 2008 to scratch a small personal itch. It then got picked up and extended beyond what I initially intended during a research project at my employer CosmoCode and over the years accumulated a lot of features. However the shortcomings in it's initial design were apparent and when we did another research project in 2015, where structured wiki data was needed, we decided to instead implement a new plugin: struct.

data plugin development has been laying mostly dormant for the last years, except from a few adjustments for customers from time to time. In general, I would always recommend using struct over data if you're starting new. However I know that many people still use it extensively (it's used at DokuWiki.org, it's used in CosmoCode's internal wiki, I know about CosmoCode customers using it). So the plugin is not abandoned.

The current plugin's code is quite messy and it would require some major refactoring for continued development. This means I will not accept pull requests for new features and will also not implement any for CosmoCode's customers. Unless bug reports are security relevant or directly affect one of my wikis they will be ignored.

If your business relies on this plugin, consider hiring CosmoCode to do the refactoring or to implement an easy upgrade path from data to struct (See cosmocode/dokuwiki-plugin-struct#42)

Note: you can hire CosmoCode for individual bug assessment, but we will probably not fix any non-trivial bugs unless we are also hired to do the refactoring.
