We all love open-source software.

It's the freedom to use it and adapt it for your own needs.

The code is open, so you can copy, adapt and re-use it. You can confirm that it is secure and safe to use. There is satisfaction when your voice is heard, or your contribution is accepted.

It didn't cost you anything.

Then the project dies. The last commit was two or more years ago. The creative force that gave life to the project moved on and no-one is maintaining the project.

Big sexy projects get corporate backers, willing to pay developers to sustain and grow the project. But there are hundreds, thousands of smaller projects that don't get funding and rely on the ongoing commitment and goodwill of their owners and contributors.

It doesn't have to be this way. Sponsorship is one way you can support good quality software. A few dollars per person, the cost of a cup of coffee, multiplied up is enough to keep developers engaged in projects. We all need to eat and put a roof over our heads. If the funding doesn't come from the work put into open source projects like these, then developers end up working for the big corporates who charge a lot of money, and make fat profits.

You don't have to sponsor a lot, a small once off donation is a welcome gesture and very much appreciated. Whatever you choose to do, I hope that you find my software useful and you are able to do good in the world.
