Hi!
My nickname is dermasugita!
I'm a developer of bioinformatics tools, a scientific researcher mainly working on cancer genome analysis, and a medical doctor(I'll be a dermatologist next year).

Viola-SV

Viola-SV is my main product, which assists cancer genome researchers in analyzing large-scale and complex DNA lesions with intuitive and simple python code. My colleague and I have proved the biological usefulness of this software by publishing a research article on Bioinformatics, a journal with tradition and achievement in the bioinformatics field. Viola-SV gets around 600 downloads per month and 15 stars marked, quite used considering the niche nature of the field it involves.

Why GitHub Sponsors

My core development policy is to eliminate the technical burdens in the bioinformatics field.

I'm currently interested in graphical user interface(GUI) programming. Recently, more and more healthcare workers going to join cancer research utilizing bioinformatics methods. Most of them, however, are not familiar with programming as well as command line interface(CLI), while some of them potentially have promising ideas to improve patients' outcomes. Developing GUI applications are the solution for this circumstance because people who are not familiar with programming or CLI can analyze large genomic data with it free from coding. To achieve this, I need to buy some textbooks for GUI programming or employ skillful developers as well as substantial time for development.

Next, data visualization is an important theme. The visualization of the mutational phenomenon that is occurring is an important guide in determining the direction of further analysis. It is challenging, however, to visualize large-size and complex DNA abnormalities, such as deletion, duplication, inversion, translocation, and their combination. Many visualizing methods have been developed such as circos plot, linear coordinate plot, graph views, and so on. Since each tool has its own strengths and weaknesses, it is important to use multiple visualization techniques to capture the essence of the data. The emergence of multiple independent tools, however, might mean existing multiple formats or protocol that is not interchangeable with each other. So, another development plan of mine is establishing compatibility between these visualization methods. Implementing these features requires a great deal of development effort, forcing me to drink a lot of coffee.

Also, I'd like to keep updating my current work, Viola-SV, to boost performance, add new features, and fix bugs, which require strong motivation that make me stick to the coding window.

Lastly, your sponsorship is a driving force in my fight against cancer in the form of contributing to OSS software.
