Paris, France

Hi there.

My name is Leo Vivier, and I teach English to high-school students in France. On the side, I do some research in the Humanities with a focus on Literature, Aesthetics, and General Linguistics. I maintain Org-roam, where I focus on the UX and on the interaction with other packages in the Org-mode ecosystem. I also help out with the development of ranger.

The process that led me to write code was very organic: I wanted my software to do stuff that it couldn't do already. This lead me to Emacs which, in turn, led me to the joy that is Elisp development. Hacking away at my configuration files, I've familiarised myself with programming paradigms, and I became increasingly proficient in translating my ideas into functional code.

What started as a hobby—a path-not-taken of what my major at university could have been—ended up being so much more than the sum of its parts. Writing Free software has had a tremendous impact on my life, and now that I've graduated, I figured it was time for me to move on to the next step.

I've started contributing code to projects, starting out with ranger, learning the ropes of the trade from some of the kindest and most knowledgeable people I've had the pleasure of dealing within the community. As my ability to write code improved, I started contributing code to Org-roam, and eventually, I was invited to help maintain the project. It's a huge responsibility, but one that I find quite exhilarating.

If the amount of revenue I get from developing Free Software reaches a certain stage, I might be able to lower my workload at school to spend more time focussing on the projects I'm maintaining. This would entail a faster development cycle, but also more headspace to think about novel features and implement them.

When I'm not working or coding, I love designing logos for Free software, and you can see some of them below. If you'd like me to design one for your project, please send me an email!

I hope to continue my work on Free software for as long as I may, and I hope I can give back to the community as much as it has given to me.

Thank you for your interest, and for taking time out of your day to read this.
