I would like to get data about the evolution of the "quantity of music released each year since the 50es". Spotify API seems to be the most comprehensive music database out there. Thing is there doesn't seem to be a way to make such a query ... I don't really have high hopes about you doing it but .... it would be soooo lovely to get me that data :)

@sebpiq, I agree - that'd be interesting to have a look at! The Search endpoint does allow you to retrieve albums filtered by year, allowing an application iterate over Spotify's catalogue - note however that this may be against our Terms of Use.
"Do not improperly access, alter or store the Spotify Service or Spotify Content, including ... aggregating metadata, album artwork, audio, or other Spotify Content to create databases or any other compilation other than as strictly necessary to offer and operate your SDA;"
Is there any way to get special authorization for research purpose :) ?
The functionality exists as @thelinmichael points out using the Search endpoint (so I'll close the issue). Special authorization is probably not worth pursuing if you're putting something together for your own personal curiosity or research.
An alternative data source for you might be MusicBrainz who have a public domain database of music metadata, including release dates of recordings.
