Custom From-matter doesn't work on layout pages

I tried the instructions provided in blog http://spress.yosymfony.com/docs/front-matter/

but using a from-matter like this

The element page.image is null using twig debug.

This is a feature request for next version, I confirm to @victorpuertas is not possible to set custom from-matter in layouts

this isn't working? afaik that's exactly how frontmatter variables are used in https://github.com/spress-add-ons/Clean-blog-theme and it's working fine.
