I'm wondering about the scope: Is this ticket on packaging just for host software, or also for firmware or even gateware?

In any case, I can strongly recommend using OBS for building for a variety of dpkg (Debian/Ubuntu/Raspbian) as well as rpm (OpenSuse, Fedora, ...) distributions. We have years of experience in building lots of packages this way at Osmocom and are generally very happy with the OBS software/system.

You can play with OBS on https://build.opensuse.org/

I'm happy to help once the scope is becoming a bit more clear to me.

In this case the gateware and host software are on and the same, as they are directly coupled and the gateware itself is generated based on the applet configuration.

I've not heard of that OBS, i'll give it a look and have a play around with it when I can. Currently the software is a bit on hold as I get working on the rev2 hardware again, which should fix all the problems and limitations with the rev1 hardware.

But yeah, i'll give OBS a poke and report back when I have the time~
