There is a Flash Of Unstyled Content after the element is upgraded and before the internal shadow stylesheet loads.

This is a shortcoming of the custom elements API. There is no sensible way of loading stylsheets. It's difficult to know what to do about this. Refuse to render the internals until the stylesheet has loaded?
