As far as I'm aware there's no markdown support for captions. In this instance you'd need to write out the appropriate HTML. (Or use the caption shortcode).
You are right, there is not native support of markdown for captions. In that case it is not possible that WP-Markdown can automatically transform the image description into a
tag in the post?

Can you give me an example how to do that in a post?
Hi Stephen,
Thanks a lot for devleoping and maintaining WP-Markdown. I always miss the simplcity of markdown when I have to use WP without your plugin!
One question. I noticed that currently images do not have any caption set.
Is it possible to use the image description as a figure caption?
Example from Wordpress-markdown code:
![This description should become a caption][1]
Can this be rendered as a figure caption in the published post?
If not, what would be your advice if I want to use figure captions?
Thanks ahead!
