Evince won't open more than one sandboxed file at once

When one file is open in evince, menu -> open -> select file does nothing. You have to close the application and reopen it to select another file.

I seem to be able to replicate in this way:

Open evince manually
Add two files through the shell extension
Open one file in evince (works)
Open a secon file in evince (does not work)
Alternatively open the second file from the file browser (works)
