i suppose this could be done using any number of sub-process control libraries in any number of languages

I worked on a few prototypes in multiple languages a few days ago, it was by far the easiest to implement in deno but deno lacks windows support for some things like killing subprocesses

We could leverage nix in the future to create a test harness for implementations that have a default app output.
