In many places, we have redundant and confusing code. This could be solved with proper inheritance inside ng2 which landed in 2.3.0...

core: properly support inheritance (f5c8e09), closes #11606 #12892 https://github.com/angular/angular/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md#features

Once 2.3 lands, implement this and remove hackiness!
