About translation of Switch2OSM site #92
Comments
Thanks for your message! There's another issue #24 with a few suggestions on it already, and at least one similar site (learnosm.org) uses Transifex, though I'm not familiar with technically how they do that. |
Do you plan to translate Switch2OSM into other languages? |
I'd love to see it available in other languages, but that's going to need help from other people (a) to suggest technically how best to do it and (b) to provide the actual translations. |
Unfortunately, I can only help with point B - translation of the text into Russian |
If at present the founders of the site have not yet made a decision as to how they will support different languages, then I came up with two simple ways to solve the issue:
|
(2) would certainly be OK (as a stop-gap at least). In fact, the way the content is licensed I don't think that we could prevent you (not that we'd want to). I'd hope we could eventually do something a bit better than (1) though. If you have a look at how the learnosm.org side works; I'd hope we could do that here. |
Thanks! Then I will make a copy of your site on my domain. How to fully translate it, then be sure to let you know. |
Also may get some inspiration from here: https://github.com/github/opensource.guide |
(for completeness) the Russian translation by @Silka123 was announced at https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Silka123/diary/391711 . |
Hello, Switch2OSM team!
My name is Valera Trubin and I'm from Moscow, Russia. In my free time I edit OpenStreetMap. Not so long ago I discovered Switch2OSM. This site impressed me with its simplcity, but at the same time the great importance of the case. I am sure that the your site has already been able to help many people on the planet and make their lives a little better.
However, I believe that the site would have a lot more users if it was translated into other languages, including Russian. Not everyone in Russia knows English well. For my part, I am ready to assist in translating Switch2OSM into Russian.
I'm looking forward to hear from you.
Thanks!
