We've got a system with German localisation as default. Setting the author's language to English won't have any effect and will still display a German backend (and not an English as expected).

Hm, well, in a way my author settings are respected now: but now the backend doesn't get translated at all – so it's English only even if the global setting is German. Reopening for further investigation.

Okay, my fault: there was a synchronisation error between two installs. All fine now.

Still, although everything is working, I get a lot of these messages in the log:

13 May 2012 13:48 > Error: The selected language could not be found. Using default English dictionary instead.

That log was already in the code so I left it. Looking at it though, it's fairly superfluous so could probably be removed.

Yeah, I know that the log was already in – I added it years ago. But Symphony should only log cases where the config or the author's settings specify a language that is not installed/available. So if Symphony is set to German, but lang_german is not available in extensions, this should be logged.
